Assembly responds to the Victorian Coalition’s backflip on commitment to Treaty

In response to the Victorian Coalition's sudden Treaty backflip, the Assembly assures all Victorians that the entire state benefits from Treaty.

On Sunday the 21st of January, the Leader of the Nationals in Victoria, Peter Walsh, announced in an interview on Sky News that the Coalition had reversed on its support for Treaty in the state.

Mr Walsh said: “We’re very concerned about the secrecy, we’re all about openness and transparency, about all of Victoria being involved in these discussions and that’s not the case.”

This was supported by Opposition spokesperson for Planning, Liberal Party member James Newbury, who has been reported as sharing concerns about financial reparations being part of treaty in Victoria.

One of the two co-Chairs of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria, Gunditjmara man Rueben Berg, spoke directly to Victorian Aboriginal News about the Coalition’s announcement. (see video below)
