A huge vote of thanks goes out to the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF), which has awarded Victorian Aboriginal News a $19,000 grant to support our radio broadcasting efforts through 2025.
The goals we’ve set ourselves to achieve with this funding are:
- Establish an editorial advisory panel to provide community feedback and advice on cultural appropriateness and editorial balance.
- Promoting the Victorian Aboriginal News Hour program to be carried on other radio stations around Victoria.
- Maintain our practice of ensuring every interview is accompanied by transcript to ensure greater accessibility.
- Undertake more on-Country interviews by offsetting the costs associated with travelling and maintaining Violet the Van.
- Offsetting production and research costs associated with every interview we undertake as part of the VAN Talks and VAN Hour programming.
About the CBF
We are proud champions of community broadcasting – Australia’s largest independent media sector.
Each year the CBF receives funding from the Australian Government’s Community Broadcasting Program to redistribute in grants to community media organisations, content producers and sector organisations. This year we granted more than $19.15 million to support 343 organisations communicate, connect and share knowledge with their communities through radio, television and digital media. This included First Nations, ethnic, LGBTIQ+ and print-disabled Australians, as well as others in our communities who are underrepresented in other media.
Our funding decisions are guided by the sector-wide ten year plan for greater influence, Roadmap 2033, the CBF Strategic Plan, guidelines for each of the grant streams as well as our own operational policies and guidelines.
Our funding supports organisations to enrich people’s lives with a diversity of choice in our media.
